I Spy: shopbop & SATC

Sex and the City’s fashionable foursome hit the big screen nationwide today. In honor of the event anticipated by style mavens across the country, let’s take a look at one of the many fabulous pieces of fashion to grace the silver screen: The Lake & Stars’ We’re On a Break Romper. Carrie dons the sexy piece with worn-to-perfection boyfriend jeans, and the pairing is another example of Patricia Field’s genius. It’s sexy and carefree and utterly unexpected, the epitome of that certain je ne sais quoi every stylish female strives for.

First Fashion: The Best of What’s New

For me, most days are classic days, and today I have three excellent reasons to keep that trend going.
If I could wear Velvet every day of the week, I would, and lucky for me, this dress is bringing me one step closer to that goal. Dressed up or down, it’s perfection. (Velvet - Becca Dress)
A timeless trench is a wardrobe must-have, and this little ditty from Rag & Bone is about as classic as they come. I know I’ll wear it for years. (Rag & Bone - Mac Trench)
The silhouette is pure elegance, yes, but this pair’s true beauty is on the inside. A padded footbed makes wearing them the equivalent of walking on clouds, and the hidden platform gives height without taking me into ankle-twisting territory. (Theory - Bijan Patent Pump)
You know there’s more. Find it in What’s New.

New Summer Styles from T-Bags

The common cold. Hiccups. That full-closet-and-nothing-to-wear feeling. We're at a loss about the first two, but we've found a surefire remedy for the latter: new summer styles from T-Bags. Little off-the-shoulder tops, kimono frocks and sweeping maxi dresses in pretty prints or summer brights are just what we need to stay chic in the heat. Add simple sandals, an armful of slim bangles, and a slouchy bag and we're all set. Summer's here. Make sure your closet's ready. Shop new styles from T-Bags, right here at shopbop.

Perfectly Imperfect: Alkemie Jewelry

Perfection is for the fearful, the boring, the uncreative, or at least that’s what I tell myself as I rush out the door in yet another outfit cobbled together from the clean pile of laundry. As it turns out, I’m in fashionable company with my embracing of imperfection. Jewelry design newcomer Alkemie (I’m a sucker for a phonetically spelled name) employs this same aesthetic (albeit in a more deliberate, elegant, and fully-realized fashion), creating rough-hewn yet glamorous pieces from “reclaimed” metals. At once utterly modern and timelessly cool, Alkemie’s Stingray Cuff has all the makings of a signature piece.

Feeling Bold: New Marc by Marc Jacobs Styles

Every summer we have a lot to look forward to: music festivals, day after day of sun, achieving that perfect tan. But our favorite summer event? The arrival of new Marc by Marc Jacobs styles. This year we've got pretty dresses in quirky prints, cool handbags, eye-catching kicks, and enough tops, shorts, and skirts to make us swoon. Even better? They're done with a nod to 1970s retro funk. New Marc styles have arrived. Find them, at shopbop.

First Fashion: Our Favorites from What's New

I just got back from a long weekend in NYC and as I unpacked my suitcase I realized I could have done a way better job packing! Here are three items from What’s New that I wish I had with me.
The weather was fantastic, but it was still a little chilly for my morning bagel run. This soft striped cardigan from McQ would have kept me cozy and cute!
Central Park was incredibly green and sunny. In real life I wore skinny jeans and a tank, but I wish I could have complemented all that chlorophyll in this breezy jersey dress from Ella Moss.
On a post-brunch window shopping stroll through Williamsburg, I was inspired by the eccentric, one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces in the boutiques. This one from Alkemie has that same “not quite perfect but still elegant” feel I love.

June Style File: Lazy Summer Days

It's that time of year when days grow long and the sun bakes the earth, when leisure is invited, welcomed, relished. It's summer, and our wardrobe demands comfort and a little laissez-faire attitude, which is why we turn to casual tops from the likes of C&C California and Splendid, Free People and Ella Moss. We throw them on with shorts by Vince and Joie, or we wear them as cover-ups with bikinis from Rachel Pally and Brette Sandler. Those lazy days are here. Read more in the June Style File, only at shopbop.

Also in the Style File:
  • Straight to Video: Our Denim Guide's going viral this month!
  • Birds & Bees: The season's sweetest looks are inspired by nature.
  • Sunny Disposition: Appreciate the finer things with summer styles from the Designer Boutique.
  • What to Where: Hot summer date? Our stylist, Pa, has just the outfit.

Love at First Sight: Technicolor Denim

There I was, coffee in hand, squinting in the Sunday morning sun when it hit me. Love at first sight. Right in front of me was the perfect pair of skinny jeans. And they were yellow. Normally I like my jeans, well, normal: medium wash, minimal distressing, definitely blue. But something about that color yellow stuck in my head until I had a chance to browse through shopbop’s own denim rainbow. What did I find? Marc by Marc, Rich & Skinny and Dittos all offer unexpected colors and a chic, sexy fit. Now, back to the cafĂ© to scope out a cute summer top and killer sandals!

First Fashion: Our Favorites from What’s New

Today finds me paying sartorial homage to the Phish shows of my misspent youth. No more cheap patchouli for me though, I’m all about a posh hippie look now.
One thing that annoyed me about clothing purchased in jam band parking lots? You always saw your exact same top on about twenty-five other girls. Alas, I’ll never have that problem in this new bohemian piece. One of those once-in-a-lifetime fashion finds, its print and cut makes it feel decidedly sophisticated, and the drawstring waist makes it extra flattering. (What Comes Around Goes Around Fiji Top)
Woodstock meets the Upper East Side! Dip-dye never looked so luxe and cashmere never felt so free-spirited. Sure, I probably won’t be wearing this until at least September, but it was one of those love-at-first-sight sweaters I simply needed to have. (Vince V Neck Sweater)
Loop this around my neck and suddenly I’m Talitha Getty, Jade Jagger or some other equally chic bohemian-jetsetter type. It's a shopbop exclusive and the color saturated palette is perfect with summer whites. (A Peace Treaty Divon Long Scarf)

McQueen is King

With a bad-boy reputation and past shows akin to drastic seasonal mood swings, Alexander McQueen’s fall runway marked a renaissance of spirit and a return to his love of fashion. So says a profile of the designer in the June issue of W magazine. The fascinating look at England’s king of style walks through the last year of McQueen’s life and how it influenced his critically acclaimed fall 2008 collection.

The profile has a great selection of images from the runway show as well as a look at McQueen’s new Melrose store. And if you can’t wait for fall, the McQ spring collection should hold you over. The streetwise styles with just a whiff of rebellion are the picture of avant-garde style.

Happy Memorial Day!

Whatever your plans for this Memorial Day, I hope the sun is shining and the grill is hot. I just got back from a stay in the great north woods of Wisconsin, three days of wearing nothing but my worn-to-shreds jeans and favorite tees. It was bliss but I’m ready to get back to more refined style, so for tonight’s barbeque, I’m going with a sweet dress and sleek flat sandals. What’s your ideal Memorial Day ensemble? Build it now, rock it at the next summer bbq.

Naturally Inclined

In school, the end of finals marked the start of summer, but in the working world, it’s the long Memorial Day weekend - three days of barbeques and boat rides, lounging and welcoming the promise of three months of sun. The weekend has a casual air about it, but I like to keep my casual a little more refined. The compromise? Natural pieces with a chic sensibility. I love brown and khaki hues on sandals, skirts, and shorts, and a dash of unexpected color brings the neutral palette to life. We’ve got some super-sleek looks in our Trends, and they’re turning out to be my summer loves.

London Calling: Let Your Inner It Girl Out

London's calling, and it's not to chat about royals and afternoon tea. This one's about alt-cool street style, and a certain Brit-born, pixie-coiffed top model has us itching to emulate her look. How to do it? We've got your cheat sheet of key elements - a shot of funky color, leggings, skinnies, Chucks, Wayfarers - and the names you need to know - Alexander Wang, Anna Sui, Twenty8Twelve. It's style that's one part clothes and three parts pure attitude. You know you want it. Find out how to get it, right here, at shopbop.

First Fashion: The Best of What's New

Too many days in a row in jeans and a tee has me craving something a little fancy.
Like a modern take on that effortlessly elegant ’70s-Hollywood-Pool-Party look I’m forever traipsing after. It shimmers ever so slightly, and I love how the sheer overlay subdues the bold print of the skirt. (Iisli - Shimmer Nile Dress)
My love affair with blazers continues! This one evokes the elegance of men’s formalwear, but with a decidedly feminine fit. I’m wearing it this weekend with dark skinnies, a white tee, and my patent Loeffler Randall Pumps. (Alexander Wang - Boyfriend Blazer)
I’ve been losing my mind over Elizabeth and James ever since the first pieces started trickling in a couple months back. As this top shows, the designers have clearly mastered that elusive combination of fashion-forward, feminine, and utterly wearable. (Elizabeth and James - Joni Tunic)

Rachel Bilson in Monrow

It’s a match made in fashion heaven! One of our favorite up-and-coming style icons, Rachel Bilson, in a tank from one of our favorite new lines, Monrow.

Indispensable Summer Styles from Rachel Pally

What exactly did we wear before Rachel Pally? We struggle to recall, or perhaps we blocked it out, so reliant have we become on her brilliant brand of effortless chic. What does the reigning queen of jersey have in store for us this summer? Her signature sweeping dresses, little shorts, tops, and flirty minis, of course. But what's more, she's added bikinis to her repertoire. Summer? We're all set for you. Soon-to-be-indispensable new styles from Rachel Pally? They're right here, at shopbop.

First Fashion: The Best of What’s New

Today has found me drawn to brown, not so uncharacteristically, and one gorgeous shot of color.
Every summer I find a pair of sandals that I love and wear until there’s nothing left to them, and with these in my closet, this year will be no exception. They’re basic, adorable, and offer a level of comfort rarely found in barely-there flat sandals. (Corso Como - Marice T Strap Sandal)
Maybe it’s the natural kick I’ve been on or maybe it’s that whole notion of flying away that feathers conjure, but when these little wonders crossed my desk, I knew I was in love. They add a dramatic flair to any look, and they do it without weighing down my lobes. (Ra Creations - Lolita Feather Earrings)
I’m a girl who loves her neutrals, but I’m a sucker for a rich dollop of purple too. This little frock is elegant and sweet and so perfect for every wedding, party, and feeling-flirty night summer has in store. (Alexander Wang - Tank Wrap Dress with Pleat Detail)
That’s only the beginning. Find more in What’s New.

In the Rags: shopbop and Anna Faris in WWDScoop

Funny girl Anna Faris (of Scary Movie fame) has two high-profile movies in the works: The House Bunny (with Monet Mazur) and Smiley Face (with Adam Brody and John Krasinski). Her sense of humor is as evident talking about fashion as it is on the big screen. In an interview with WWDScoop, she confesses:

“I don’t love to try on clothes, which is always a bit of a problem, because I order the stuff from shopbop.com and then I forget to send it back.”

Aw shucks, Anna! Don’t worry, we love you!

100 High Style Finds for Under $100. (Really)

Not so long ago we set out on a mission to find 100 high style pieces for under $100. Impossible, you say? Well, we've done it, and we're pretty darn proud of ourselves. Let's start with the season's hottest accessories trends; we spotted gladiator sandals by Cocobelle and scarves by Love Quotes. If it's baubles you desire, Laurel Denise necklaces have a sweet, delicate inclination, while Rachel Leigh bangles pack a bolder punch. But we weren't limited to accessories, friends. We found obsession-worthy tees from Vince and Splendid, and sexy tanks from Velvet. And there are still 93 more to go. Get high style for a petite price, right here, at shopbop.

First Fashion: The Best of What's New

Dressed up or dressed down, these three are in the running towards becoming my Next Top Signature Piece.
Black and white is always welcome in my wardrobe, and the distinctive contrast of patent and suede in Marc by Marc’s Open Toe Dotted Pump screams, “Look at me I’m different!” In an elegant way, of course.
The very opposite of black and white, this rainbow psychedelic print dress from Tibi is like a magical ray of sunshine that peeps out from the brown, grey and black recesses of my drab closet.
Gara Danielle’s bangles are so simple they’re brilliant. The square addition to the set adds a subversive slant to an otherwise conventionally accessorized wrist.
But everyone has their own favorite. Find yours at shopbop.

Flip + Flop = LUV 4EVER

When I think about the best days of summer, I think about the hot sun, the smell of sunscreen, and my flip-flops. I wear them with almost every summer outfit I own and I try to extend their lifespan until at least October. With all of this flip-flop love to give, it pays to have a few pairs around. This summer, I’m looking at the classic bright colors of Havaianas’ Solid Flip-Flop for everyday wear and Mella’s bold prints and unexpected fabrics for when I need a little pick-me-up. At some point in time, I’ll have to trade my bikini for a sundress, but I’ll survive because I’ll have elegant Cocobelle and KORS leather flip-flops to choose from. Pass the nail polish, my summer love affair has begun.

Refined Glamour in the Designer Boutique

Reality TV, tabloid journalism, and one too many TMI moments in your everyday life have you craving a little mystery? Make like a Hitchcock heroine and cultivate an elegant aloofness with looks from Rachel Roy and Yves Saint Laurent. Roy's gorgeous Grecian-inspired number, sleek sheath, and slouchy trousers have a subtle sexiness worthy of Grace Kelly herself, while statement-making YSL sunglasses add the perfect woman-of-mystery touch. Refined glamour for modern-day fashion icons? Find it right here, at the Designer Boutique.

First Fashion: The Best of What's New

Kenneth Jay Lane, Rebecca Taylor, and The Lake and Stars feed my need for individual style.
I’ve got a soft, squishy place in my heart for Kenneth Jay Lane’s creatively out-there designs. They always manage to cheer me up or change my accessories perspective. The Block Link Necklace is one of those change-my-perspective pieces: totally off-beat, larger-than-life, and completely out of the ordinary.
I love the tailored look a pencil skirt gives an outfit, and this one from Rebecca Taylor is no exception. The buckle detail and contrast stitching give it a unique edge, and I love the subtle slit at the back.
Pretty and quirky, the Make-Up Room Bralette from The Lake & Stars adds a little somethin’ extra with an unexpected crisscross detail at the hook-and-eye clasp. The matching bikini brief ups the sex appeal with a flirty bow.
Find all these and more in What’s New.

Smooth Transition

This time of year yields peculiar weather. The day begins cool, by 3 p.m. the temperature has risen 20 degrees, and then it drops by 15 in the evening. On days like these, layering becomes a fashion art form, and if it’s done right, one outfit can take you from morning to night.

The easiest way to pull it off is to make a flirty dress the foundation of your look. I love the vintage feel and the on-trend, airy silhouette of Joie’s floral Kapri Dress. Layer on a cardigan by James Perse and a scarf by Love Quotes for morning; then ditch them in the afternoon heat. As the temperatures drop with the setting sun, use the scarf as a shawl for a perfectly evening-worthy look.

Get in the Groove

The late '60s, that epoch of free love, funk, and other, ahem, psychedelic pastimes. It's also the era that brought us tie-dye, bell-bottoms, and platforms in all their groovy glory. We're not planning to paint peace signs on our car and take off with a cross-country caravan, but with updated looks from Joie and YAYA, J Brand and Seven, we might just think twice if given the option. Get in the groove and feel the flower power, right now, at shopbop.

Wake Up to Summer with JUICY

It’s that time of year when everything is fresh and new, when we open all our windows and spend every possible moment outside. Summer is in the air, and new Juicy styles have arrived just in time. Their signature terry is spot-on, as always, and they’ve given their princess style a less girly, more feminine slant. Sun-seeking dresses match up with sleek sandals, and airy blouses top the denim fits we adore. On-trend handbags and sporty-chic watches are here too, which can only mean it’s shaping up to be one Juicy summer. Find the latest looks, right here, at shopbop.

What Style Mavens are Snapping Up for Summer

Getting to rifle through a stylish stranger's closet? It's the ultimate in fashion voyeurism. It's also liable to get you busted for Breaking and Entering. That's why we're bringing you the next best thing. Witness Top Sellers: your glimpse into the style psyche of the shopbop shopper. What are fellow fashionistas flipping their lids for this month? Sweeping maxi dresses from DVF, Tom Ford sunglasses, Tory Burch bags and rompers from T-Bags to name just a few. Snap up these favorites and scores of other top sellers, right here, at shopbop.

First Fashion: The Best of What's New

Jersey and sandals are the perfect fair weather friends.
Soft jersey, great fit, and thoughtful detail? All these are combined in Lauren Conrad’s Jackie Tube Top. With subtle ruching at the bust and a shape that will flatter anyone, this top is at the top of my Wish List.
I spent all fall and winter accumulating cozy flats and boots, and now that the threat of frost is finally gone, I’ve been searching for a pair of sandals to show off my freshly painted toes. Botkier’s Ginger Metallic Ring Sandal gives an extra kick with hammered metal rings and goes perfectly with both Cara Mia Crimson and I’m Not Really a Waitress.
>I love pajamas. Old pajamas. Pajamas that have been through the wash so often they are allllmost threadbare – and probably the softest article of clothing on the planet. Some days, all I want to wear is something that soft but still respectable and cute. Thank the t-shirt gods for Splendid’s Very Light Tee. Incredibly soft jersey and the perfect t-shirt fit? Um, I will probably stock up on these like I stocked up on toilet paper in December 1999.

I Spy: shopbop Fashion Sighted

It happened with the music featured on The O.C. Now? It’s the fashion on Gossip Girl. For some reason (Aliens? Vitamin boosts?), Josh Schwartz’s hit TV shows inspire some intense trend-spotting. I still have Imogen Heap and Death Cab CDs laying around, but nowadays I’m having a blast spotting shopbop looks on the fictional Upper East Side.

Recently, the GG girls have been all about Foley + Corinna handbags. Check out the fuchsia City Clutch that hung on Jenny’s arm as she planned her first party and learned the truth about her boyfriend in the episode “All About My Brother.”

You know you love it.

XOXO!
