Mad for "Mad Men"

With the second season of “Mad Men” premiering this week, all I can think about is that early '60s style: blouses, skirts, and the necessary pump. And with shopbop, I’ve found updated versions of that ultra-feminine silhouette. The smocked blouse from Tucker pairs a smart print with lightweight silk, and Robert Rodriguez’s pintuck blouse dresses up with sheer chiffon. Anna Sui’s checked blouse is a little more avant-garde, but still keeps a uniquely classic shape. Tweed is showing up for fall and Rebecca Taylor’s skirt keeps it cute with a flounce hem. In the Glossies: Time’s Tickin’

The latest issue of Life&Style magazine called out a few detail-oriented watches, and the Kenneth Jay Lane ladybug watch, which we happen to adore for its quirky attitude, made the cut. Another notable? A little Marc by Marc Jacobs creation. There weren’t any Juicy tickers in the bunch, but we think it’s the perfect brand to round out this timely threesome.

Packing (for the) Heat

In my book, there’s no bigger end-of-the-weekend buzz-kill than hauling a bag stuffed with unworn shoes/handbags/dresses/tops/shorts out to the cab/car/jitney. I’m hot. I’m usually hung-over. I’m tempted to abandon it all at the curb. Adding insult to injury? I have to unpack said items once I get home. (Or, in my case, ten days later.) This summer I’m on a mission to perfect the art of weekend packing. My weapons of choice? Three multi-tasking, travel-friendly pieces that go from day to date, boardwalk to barstool.

Elegant enough for a nice dinner out, yet breezy enough for a walk down the beach, this sweeping, strapless number from Theory is one of my favorite recent finds.

Comfy as a flip-flop but markedly fancier, metallic flat sandals are pretty much my favorite thing to wear in the summer. An added bonus? They take up just a sliver of space in my bag.

This roomy, oversized clutch is exactly the right size for a magazine or two and my absolute essentials, yet it’s chic and polished enough for evening.

Now the question remains: What to do with the time I used to spend fighting with the zipper on my Samsonite Sunday morning…

Forget Ruby Slippers, I’ll Take Those Gold Ones

I’ve been clinging to my patent leather shoes since the first of the year, but now that the sun is bright and the days are just about as long as they’re gonna get, reflective metallics are catching my eye. Normally I don’t have Shiny Object Syndrome, but with boots like these from Marc by Marc Jacobs and sandals from Dolce Vita and K. Jacques, I’m beginning to understand the appeal. Under my Umbrella (ella ella)

When it rains, it pours, and lately that’s all I’ve seen. (4 inches in 24 hours?!) All this rain means puddles, mud, and unfortunate drips of water down the back of my neck. I have realized in the past 48 hours that an umbrella and boots will be accompanying me to every engagement on my calendar until the sky is blue and the ground doesn’t make that squelching noise when I walk on it. Hopefully I’ll be back in my cute sandals soon, but until then I’ve got plenty to keep me happy until the deluge is over. Umbrellas from Marc by Marc Jacobs will keep my neck dry and colorful Wellingtons from Hunter Boots will let me splash around in puddles like a 3-year-old – but without the requisite bath afterwards. I can’t decide if I like the metallic wellies or the bright orange ones, but figuring that out will give me something to do while I wait for my power to come back on.

Love at First Sight: Technicolor Denim

There I was, coffee in hand, squinting in the Sunday morning sun when it hit me. Love at first sight. Right in front of me was the perfect pair of skinny jeans. And they were yellow. Normally I like my jeans, well, normal: medium wash, minimal distressing, definitely blue. But something about that color yellow stuck in my head until I had a chance to browse through shopbop’s own denim rainbow. What did I find? 	Black and white is always welcome in my wardrobe, and the distinctive contrast of patent and suede in Marc by Marc’s Open Toe Dotted Pump screams, “Look at me I’m different!” In an elegant way, of course.
	The very opposite of black and white, this rainbow psychedelic print dress from Tibi is like a magical ray of sunshine that peeps out from the brown, grey and black recesses of my drab closet.

Spring Romp

When the usual shorts-and-tee combo seems too casual but a dress feels too, well, dress-y? I rock a romper. This utilitarian-chic style from Ever is so good with gladiators, and I just wore this neo-preppy Marc one for Mother’s Day brunch.
