A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Barbershop Quartet

A couple of weeks ago I spent a few days in Music City for the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Convention. While the convention demographic skewed a little older and the fashion skewed to sequined vests and matching zoot suits (and penguin costumes!), the style on the streets of Nashville reflected an updated honky-tonk sensibility.

Worn-in western boots were ubiquitous and, in the sticky heat of mid-afternoon CD shopping at Ernest Tubb's and eating too much barbeque at Jack’s, best paired with a light dress like the Magical Mini Dress and the Happy Mini Dress from Daughters of the Revolution, or the Placed Print Easy Dress from Juicy. Best bets for boots? Bronx, N.D.C., Golden Goose, and Frye all offer a western-style riding boot.

When the sun goes down, the shorts come out. Siwy Denim, William Rast, and True Religion showcase the favored distressed, frayed style. Summer tops like Mason’s Racer Detail Tank, LaROK’s Navajo Chain Top, and Rachel Pally’s Double Bow Top show off some skin (and the also-ubiquitous, slightly-faded tattoo) and add a chic sex appeal to dressed-down denim and boots. Add a long necklace or a couple of bangles, and the look is perfect for bar-hopping with a Country and Western twang.

Whether you’re trying to channel Mother Maybelle, Patsy Cline, or Carrie Underwood, shopbop has what you’re looking for.

Glastonbury Chic

The Glastonbury Festival has come and gone, and whether you’re a Mark Ronson fan or more of a Leonard Cohen girl, three stylish pieces were de rigueur for the weekend.
	High-waisted Denim Fashion-forward and still unexpected, high-waisted denim showed up in summer shorts.
	Wellington Boots Kate Moss led the pack, but every other practical-minded festival-goer had the same idea and embraced their waterproof Hunters and Tretorns.
	Technicolor Ray-Bans Quirky, statement colors in the classic Wayfarer shape, Ray-Bans (and look-alikes) were all over Worthy Farm.

Summer Music Festival Chic

Find yourself clicking through pictures from Coachella and Bonnaroo in your cube longingly, overcome with that missed-out-on-the-best-party-of-the-year feeling? Me, too. And then this comforting thought occurred to me: just because I wasn’t there doesn’t mean I can’t crib the summer music festival look. My EZ Coachella-inspired look involves a bikini and short-shorts, loads of long necklaces (and perhaps a bracelet or two for good measure), a floppy hat, gladiator sandals, and, of course, statement sunglasses. First Fashion: Our Favorite's from What's New

For whatever reason, my picks from today’s What’s New say "Lumberjack chic." For reals.
	This checked shirt from Sunner may take its inspiration from a certain legendary lumberjack’s closet, but with a cool blue color and a flattering fit, this top is my favorite kind of unexpected style.
	These shorts from Elizabeth and James have that “I ripped a hole in my favorite jeans and had to cut them off so I can still keep wearing them” look that I love. Plus, the suspenders are off-beat and cool and much more delicate than those you might expect from expert tree-fellers.
	I love the sweet heart detail and metallic leather band on this watch from Juicy Couture. It may not be appropriate lumberjack wear, but I could time how long it takes Paul to cut down a tree!
