In the Glossies: J Brand & Figure-Loving Frocks

The August issue of People Style Watch has a section dedicated to helping ladies find their curvy side, even if they have a boyish figure. And while I love that J Brand’s hip-enhancing skinnies got a shout out, what really caught my eye were the shapely dresses. It just so happens that a waist-defining silhouette is my dress of choice, and we’ve got a whole category dedicated to the figure-enhancing frocks at shopbop. In fact, our head buyer, Erin, made it her pick earlier this year, calling the look “timeless,” “ladylike,” and “always chic.” I think those are three pretty darn good reasons to love it.

Exclusively Ours

We love an It item as much as the next girl, but the thing that really makes our fashionable hearts go pitter-patter? A brilliantly unique find. That's why we get a little giddy every time a new shopbop exclusive shows up on the site. Take, for example, C&C's Jersey & Lace Dress in a slinky-soft fabric that's gorgeous in every way (and exclusively ours). In denim, there's an exclusive high-rise skinny by J Brand, and to match, a Tucker cami in a seriously chic (and exclusive) print. If accessories are more your thing, we've got a clutch by Jack Rabbit Collection or a scarf by A Peace Treaty, both exclusively ours.Discover the beauty of exclusive fashion today, only at shopbop.

Monday à la Moss!

This installment of MALM finds our girl Kate at that Brit hipster-happening, the Glastonbury Music Festival. Pulled-together yet never precious, Kate’s utterly personal look feels perfectly in tune with her laid-back, music fest surroundings. (Not surprising, considering Kate was one of the foremost pioneers of the high/low, luxe groupie look.) But enough with the waxing rhapsodic for the moment, let’s get to the good part where I recreate Kate with stuff from shopbop.

Glastonbury saw Kate pairing her go-to grey skinnies (these are J Brand) with navy Hunter Wellies and a brilliantly unexpected silky top. (It’s not metallic, but methinks Moss would adore this Helmut Lang one just as much.) This functional-yet-fashionable Foley + Corinna bag looks a lot like the one she has over her shoulder, and this military-inspired Mike & Chris jacket is practical and adds just the right amount of edge. And of course, no Kate ensemble would be complete without a pendant and a couple of really cool rings. (Photo courtesy of Jezebel.)

Monday à la Moss!

On my better days? I fancy myself the bookish, Midwestern, sedate version of Kate Moss. (On my worse days I think I look like the love child of Axel Rose and Janice from The Muppets, but that’s another matter entirely.) And few things bring me quite as much joy as being able to recreate Kate’s effortless cool with items from right here at shopbop.

This classic Kate look starts with gray J Brand skinnies, a white V-neck tee (I love the little pocket on LNA’s) and a studded gladiator. (Even better? These L.A.M.B. ones are on sale.) Ray-Ban Wayfarers are a hipster essential this season, and a Thea Grant pendant is the perfect combination of sweetly pretty and found-object cool. A slouchy black bag (I love Rebecca Minkoff's) stores all manner of must-haves.

Denim 101: The Holy Grail of Online Denim Shopping

Boy oh boy, do I know what an undertaking finding a pair of jeans online is! And just because I work at SB, does not make me immune. We have such an incredible variety of denim, that to single-handedly find the perfect pair I would have have to confine myself to a dressing room for a month to really see the extent of our selection. I know I don’t have that kind of time. And I'm pretty sure you guys don’t either!

The innumerable obstacles we all face when shopping for denim online are daunting, but the largest one? Not being able to try anything on!

So what are the options? Buy 10 pairs, and send back 9? Get stuck with a pair that are just okay? Argh! The frustration! I want to fall madly in love with my denim. I want to hug and squeeze it and take it on a date. Is that too much to ask?

In the quest to solve the 'Greatest Mystery of Online Shopping', I've banded together with our stylists, buyers, and oh-so-savvy Customer Service department.

Our buyers are so brilliantly on point when it comes to what's hot - and of course what's classic - in denim. The stylists are always looking for new ways to wear, tear, dress up, and dress down their jeans, and Customer Service are the true soldiers in the denim trenches, fighting side by side with you guys to let us know what really works…and more importantly, what doesn’t!

It's the Dream Team. We have wefted and warped our way through more twill than the gold rushers in '49 to bring you THE most comprehensive guide out there: DENIM 101. It covers how to shop for jeans on our site, what you NEED to know about fit, and what styles and washes look best on what body types. We cover quite a few of our most popular brands, from Seven for All Mankind to William Rast, J Brand, Citizens of Humanity, and more.

It also happens to be our first video EVER, so I am super psyched!

To me, it's like the light at the end of the tunnel. And I really hope you like it.

Get in the Groove

The late '60s, that epoch of free love, funk, and other, ahem, psychedelic pastimes. It's also the era that brought us tie-dye, bell-bottoms, and platforms in all their groovy glory. We're not planning to paint peace signs on our car and take off with a cross-country caravan, but with updated looks from Joie and YAYA, J Brand and Seven, we might just think twice if given the option. Get in the groove and feel the flower power, right now, at shopbop.

New Spring Denim Styles Are In!

Saggy where they used to be sleek, our go-to pair of jeans is looking seriously worse for wear. Not surprising, considering we've lived in them for the last, oh, six months. Retiring them after their many dedicated days of service? So much easier thanks to fresh spring denim styles from the likes of J Brand, Seven, Citizens, and Hudson. White, light, wide leg, skinnies, straight-legs, and flares, nothing eases the pain of parting with old faithful quite like a fresh denim fling. Find your new favorite pair, right here, at shopbop.

New Denim to Start the Season

It's the stuff we live in, the twilled cotton that makes up our jeans, and a day rarely passes that we don't slip on our favorite pair. This season, we adore the light wash, particularly Seven's bleached Sunset Jean, which gives a nod to the '80s while feeling so very now. The high waist is everywhere and always fabulous, and J Brand's Cass Jean paints the perfect picture of what we love about the leg-elongating look. If you want to take the classic route, we've got that too because new denim's here in every shade of blue. Find your favorite right now, at shopbop.
